Dr. Thomas Nero is the Director of Clinical Research at Cardiology Associates in Fairfield County.  A graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Dr. Nero did his residency and fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center in NYC.  He has an active practice in general cardiology, interventional cardiology and structural heart disease.  He also has an active practice in sports cardiology.

Joshua Silverstein is the senior manager of clinical research across all CAFC sites. He brings a wealth of clinical research experience to the program, ranging from work in glaucoma research at Donald Hood’s Visual Science Lab at Columbia University, to the design, conduct, and publication of investigations in neurorehabilitation at Burke

Joshua Silverstein is the senior manager of clinical research across all CAFC sites. He brings a wealth of clinical research experience to the program, ranging from work in glaucoma research at Donald Hood’s Visual Science Lab at Columbia University, to the design, conduct, and publication of investigations in neurorehabilitation at Burke Neurological Institute. He continues to pursue his passion for impactful clinical research at CAFC

He  is one of the coordinators of Clinical Research at Cardiology Associates in Fairfield County and editor of the podcast Patients First in Spanish.

She has prior research experience in COVID-19, Obesity, and Alzheimer's. She has won multiple awards for her research, including a research critique focusing

Her studies focused on multidisciplinary and analytical problem solving, coupled with a strong scientific background and research skills. She has extensive research experience in nutritional sciences, and clinical experience previously working as an Emergency Medical Responder and Ophthalmic Technician. Lauren has a passion for human flourishing and well-being and enjoys the opportunity for positive impact as Clinical Research Coordinator at CAFC.

Dr. Awahngie Akwo is a Clinical Research Fellow at Cardiology Associates in Fairfield County. He received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and also earned a Master of Science in Medical Science at Indiana University School of Medicine, where he carried out preliminary research on Acute Myeloid Leukemia and Chlamydia-induced synthesis of IFN-β in Oviduct Epithelial Cells. He has worked internationally with Maealth and its panel tasked with developing a Strategy for Eliminating the Public Health Problem of Hepatitis B in Cameroon. He is passionate about equipping minority populations with information, skills and opportunities to be healthy.
